While Listening to Interview With Jon Keel...

Saturday, April 12, 2008, 11:15 AM [Pay Per Click]

Jon, a one-man show...This is me in a nutshell, except I'm in the learning curve phase and I do this for myself (I have no clients).

Here's where I stand today in my learning curve: I struggle with setting priorities and top-level goals on a daily basis.

Right now, Adwords impressions are low and I have to decide how I should react to that. Should I...

    1) Keep plugging away setting up campaigns on the content network (pushing CPA zip/email submits) on the same domain?

    2) Put up new campaigns using a different domain (content network)?

    3) Put up new campaigns on a new adwords account (content network)?

    4) Review the site placement report and see where my ads are appearing and assess each individual adgroup accordingly? Would I be over-analyzing the situation by doing this?

    5) Do site targeting campaigns for winning adgroups based on the data gathered from option #4?

    6) Forget all of the above. Instead, venture into the search network and learn how to play in that QS arena?

I'm thinking that I would try option #2 - a small change but noticeable if Google hates my current domain.

Do you have any input for me?

    --------------------------------------

@Russell, you asked what I am really selling and what is my primary income stream.

ANS: 1) I find traffic and funnel them through to lead offers using PPC. 2) Commissions from CPA networks is my primary income stream.

I have found many traffic keywords through TZ but Adwords has given me very low impressions since April 8. I don't know why other than I moved my adgroups around to different campaign names. I consolidated adgroups to differentiate between winning adgroups and testing adgroups. I checked with Adwords support prior to doing this and they said it would not subject my ads for review so long as I just move them without editing them. So I went hog wild and revamped my campaign structure.

I felt the need to do that because Adwords only allows 25 campaigns per account, and at this time they will not raise my campaign limit.

Since I broker traffic from PPC to CPA offers, I'm in many markets at the same time; therefore, my campaigns have no theme relevance. My campaigns are only segregated by country (US, AU, UK, CA), and these only run on the content network for the cheap click costs since I am pushing $1 CPA offers.

Since Google won't give my adgroups the impressions they once had, not even the new adgroups I put up, I am unable to test the effectiveness of my TZ research. That is why I am considering goig to the search network to attempt to find and dominate the traffic.

My campaigns are directed to my domain. This domain is not silo'd. It has no real theme but comprises of individual PPC landing pages. There's a link on each LP that goes to the index page of the doman. The content on the landing pages is dynamically generated to pull in feeds from articles, blogs, videos, and images. I can get my click costs down to 3c while maintaining an average position of 3 or 4 with these LPs.

The adgroups that were getting an aggregate of 1.5 million impressions last month now get 1/3 of that. My conversion rate has stayed the same, so the traffic converts. I'm just not getting that much traffic anymore.

What else should I elaborate on? Do you or anyone else have any more advice for me?

    Hi,

There is nowhere near enough data for me to feel good about giving you effective advice. My first tip is to start thinking about what you are really selling, and what is the primary income stream?
